Early Literacy Dashboard Purpose
Our community called out that there was no common data or framework to understand if children were on track with learning to read by third grade. Individual organizations used data to support their own work with children and families, but collectively as a community, we lacked alignment.
In the development of this dashboard, we’re changing how parents, nonprofits, healthcare organizations and schools are working together. We have hosted community input sessions and held conversations with individual organizations to ask questions about what data they are using, what research says about the needs of children and what gaps folks are seeing in various ages in our community. Based on input from across our community, we have identified seven key benchmarks from birth to age 9 that appear in the initial launch of the Early Literacy Dashboard below. These benchmarks will help our community align on what matters most, track our progress, and take action in key areas so more children are reading by third grade.

This dashboard is a part of the
forWORDS Initiative
forWORDS is a community-wide literacy initiative led by Achieve Brown County to help more children build the early foundation they need to read by third grade and thrive for a lifetime.
